About the Artist
SHE. HER.
_JPG.jpg)
Aretha Williams is a Bridge Woman, a Matriarch-Futurist Artist with ancient global heritage from Turtle Island to Scotland, from Sherwood Forest to Southeast Asia to the Holy Land of the Igbo, a blessedly African American child born of pre-1776 freedom fighter descent carrying on Beloved Community tradition in the media of photography, digital art, word, collage, and possible impossibilities.
Throughout her life-work and vice versa, Aretha channels the ferocious compassion of our first Black human mother, the optimistic nostalgia of those who were alive before the invention of race, and the keen-eyed vision of those who are not seen and in being so, see it all.
A talisman, a portal, a call to action, a balm. Whichever pieces you make your own, you can rest assured they will arrive with the deepest blooming prayers Aretha has seeded all over Grandmother Earth from the cave of the Black Madonna of Montserrat in Spain to the streets of Charlottesville, from the rim of Goddess Pelehonuamea's fiery home at Kilauea to the last home of
Mother Mary in Turkey.
Named in honor of Aretha Franklin, Aretha's name is of Greek origin, meaning Virtue and Excellence and she invites you to join her on the adventure of making the world anew fueled up by art with soul. Welcome.
